Edith's daughter
Erivo's parents came to the UK from Nigeria in their early twenties. They separated when she was very young, and her mother, Edith, a nurse, raised Cynthia and her sister on her own. Years later, when Erivo set up a production company, she called it Edith's Daughter. It's the kind of detail that tells you more about her than any interview soundbite.

Then came Elphaba. Jon M. Chu's Wicked (2024) grossed more than $758 million worldwide and picked up 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Erivo. It won two, for costume design and production design.
Wicked: For Good followed in 2025, with new Stephen Schwartz material including No Place Like Home, sung by Erivo. She performed all of Elphaba's songs across both films, which matters: this wasn't a screen star propped up by a playback track.
The same stretch saw her host the 78th Tony Awards in 2025, play Coachella, release a studio album and a memoir, and shoot three new films. A one woman stage adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula is also in development. Few performers have had a two year run this full.

Icon Polls estimates Cynthia Erivo's net worth at about $8 million in 2026. There's no official figure. Earlier estimates sat around $5 million, and we think the Wicked films, plus music, stage work, brand partnerships and her production company, have pushed it up since.
Her Wicked salary became a talking point when early reports put it around $1 million and suggested a gap with co star Ariana Grande. Universal later said the two were paid equally. Treat any specific number you see online as reported, not confirmed.
