Most 23 year old reserve team goalkeepers spend their weekends in Segunda Division grounds and their weekdays hoping someone upstairs is watching. Aitor Fraga did that too. But in April 2026 he also ended up with a Copa del Rey winner's medal, as part of the Real Sociedad squad that beat Atletico Madrid on penalties in the final. He didn't play in it. It still counts, and it tells you something about how the club sees him.
Fraga is a long term project, not a finished article. Here's where that project stands.

Ten Minutes Down the Road
Hernani sits a few kilometres from San Sebastian, close enough that Real Sociedad was always the obvious destination for a tall local kid who liked standing between the posts. Fraga joined the academy in 2017, aged 14. By 2019, still a teenager, he was being called up to train with the first team. Clubs don't hand that kind of invitation to everyone, and Real Sociedad, with its long habit of promoting Basque academy players, rarely does it on a whim.
He has also worn Spain's colours at under 16, under 17 and under 21 level, collecting two caps for the U21 side so far.
Beti Kozkor, the C Team and the Long Queue
Goalkeepers wait. It's the job. Fraga's first taste of senior football came on loan at Beti Kozkor, a Basque side in the Tercera Division RFEF, for the 2021/22 season. Regular minutes at that level matter more than people think: crosses come in uglier, forwards are more physical, and mistakes cost points rather than coaching notes.
Back at Real Sociedad in 2022, he became the starter for the C team in the Segunda Federacion. The step up to Sanse came in December 2023, with a debut in a 1-1 draw against CF Fuenlabrada. He soon pushed past Gaizka Ayesa to become the reserves' first choice, and in January 2025 the club tied him down until 2029.
Taking Sanse Up a Division
The 2024/25 season ended with Real Sociedad B promoted to the Segunda Division. Fraga played a big part in getting them there, though there's an awkward footnote: Spain U21 duty pulled him away for the final promotion playoff games, and he watched the celebrations from the stands. Not ideal, but international call ups are not something a young keeper turns down.
His professional second tier debut followed on August 17, 2025, a 1-0 home win over Real Zaragoza. A clean sheet against a club of that size is a decent way to introduce yourself.
Reading the 2025/26 Numbers
Over the league campaign, Fraga logged roughly 2,790 minutes as Sanse's main goalkeeper. The headline figures:
- Save percentage of around 68.3%
- 4 clean sheets
- 2 yellow cards
- An average match rating of 6.86
Honestly, those numbers are solid rather than spectacular. Four clean sheets isn't many for a season's worth of minutes. But context matters. A newly promoted reserve side, built mostly from young players, is going to concede chances against experienced Segunda Division squads. A save rate in the high 60s behind that kind of defence suggests a keeper doing his share. His best outings, rated 7.6, came in an away win at SD Huesca and a home draw with Burgos CF.

A Medal From the Bench
While starting for the B team, Fraga was also pulled into first team matchday squads for La Liga and Copa del Rey fixtures. He didn't always feature, but being named matters. That's how coaches signal trust, and it's how he ended up part of the squad that won the Copa del Rey in Seville. Plenty of established keepers never get that line on their CV.
What He Earns, Roughly
No official salary figure has been published. Reported figures put his wage at around 4,000 pounds per week at Real Sociedad B, which is a reasonable sum for a young keeper in Spain's second tier but treat it as an estimate rather than a confirmed number. Icon Polls estimates his net worth at $1 million to $3 million in 2026. If he graduates to regular first team football, both figures should climb.
Why the Valuations Disagree
Ask three sites what Fraga is worth and you'll get three answers. Estimates run from about 500,000 euros up to 1.3 million euros. That spread is normal for a goalkeeper with limited senior minutes: the data is thin, and keepers are valued on reliability that takes years to prove.
The contract is the bigger factor. With a deal running to 2029, Real Sociedad hold all the leverage and have no reason to sell. Our view is that his price only moves meaningfully once he collects regular La Liga minutes. Until then, he's a prospect valued as one.
Fraga on a Console
In EA Sports FC 26, Fraga starts at 64 overall with a potential of 74, listed with Real Sociedad B in LaLiga Hypermotion. Supporting details: 2 star weak foot, 1 star skill moves, medium/medium work rates, 194 cm, and GK Basic as his best chemistry style. A 74 ceiling won't make him a Career Mode headliner, but he's a cheap, tall option who grows into a dependable starter.
Football Manager 2026 is more generous with a market value of around 3 million, a contract to 2029, and a best role of No-Nonsense Goalkeeper. FM scouts tend to like him as a safe long term buy.
Where would a keeper like Fraga sit in the bigger conversation? Nowhere yet, frankly, but if you want to argue about the players who did make it, have your say in our vote for the best football players of all time.
Three Short Answers
Has Aitor Fraga played for Spain?
Yes, at youth level. He has represented Spain at U16, U17 and U21 level, with two caps for the U21 side.
Did he play in the 2026 Copa del Rey final?
No. He was part of the Real Sociedad squad that won the trophy against Atletico Madrid on penalties, but he did not play in the final.
Could he become Real Sociedad's first choice?
It's a realistic target rather than a certainty. The 2029 contract, the first team call ups and his steady progress at Sanse all point the same way. The next step is senior La Liga minutes, and that's the part only time and the coaching staff can settle.
