Plenty of teenagers who leave Barcelona's academy end up drifting through the lower divisions and never resurface. Iker Cordoba took a sharper route. He walked out of La Masia at 17, signed for Valencia, collected a handful of senior appearances, then spent 2025/26 on loan at CD Mirandes in LaLiga2. That loan was the real test, and it has now run its course. With a Valencia contract that stretches to 2028, the next year or so decides whether he becomes a genuine first team defender or one more name on the loan list.

A Tarragona kid who said no to Barcelona
Cordoba grew up in Els Pallaresos, a small town just outside Tarragona, in a part of Catalonia that feeds a steady stream of players into Barcelona's system. He was one of them. Between 2020 and 2023 he moved through the club's U17 B, U17 and U19 sides, which is no small thing: La Masia doesn't keep defenders around for three years out of politeness.
Then, in July 2023, he left as a free agent and joined Valencia. It's easy to read that as a rejection, but it looks more like a calculation. Barcelona's pathway for young centre backs is crowded. Valencia offered a long contract and a clearer view of senior football, starting with the Mestalla reserve side in the Segunda RFEF.
Two games at the top, one goal in the cup
The step up came in 2024/25. Cordoba made two LaLiga appearances for Valencia and two more in the Copa del Rey, scoring once in the cup. Four senior games is a tiny sample. It proves he was trusted, not that he was ready, and Valencia clearly reached the same conclusion, because the next move was a season long loan rather than a squad place.
Mirandes: minutes, and a lot of cards
Valencia sent him to Mirandes in July 2025 so he could play every week, and on that narrow goal the loan delivered. He became a regular starter in the back line. Here's the record as it stood in our previous update:
- LaLiga2: around 22 appearances
- Discipline: 8 yellow cards and 2 red cards
- Copa del Rey: 1 appearance
- Injury: a short layoff from December 22, 2025 to January 1, 2026
The appearance count is the good news. The disciplinary column is the bit a coach will circle in red pen. Ten cards in roughly 22 league games is a heavy rate, and two dismissals for a centre back means his team spent two matches a man down because of him. Some of that is the second division, which is physical and unforgiving. Some of it is a young defender learning when not to commit. The charitable reading is that he never hides from a duel. The honest one is that he has to cut the cards before a LaLiga manager will rely on him.
The left foot is the selling point
At 6ft 3in, Cordoba has the frame for aerial work and for dealing with heavier strikers, and at 20 he should still be filling out. But height is common among centre backs. Being left footed isn't. A natural left sided centre back lets a team build play from the back without the ball being forced onto a weaker foot, and plenty of clubs shop specifically for that profile.
EA Sports FC 26 rates him a 64 overall at Mirandes, with two star weak foot and skill moves. Game ratings aren't scouting reports, but that number fits a player who is a solid second tier starter rather than a finished article.
Wages nobody has published
Cordoba's salary hasn't been made public, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we can say is that a young loan player in LaLiga2 earns well below first division regulars, even when his parent club is as big as Valencia. Icon Polls estimates his net worth at somewhere between $300,000 and $700,000, based on the contract structure and typical pay at his level. That's a wide range on purpose: the inputs are informed guesses, not disclosed figures.
If he nails down a place in a top flight squad, at Valencia or elsewhere, that estimate would change quickly. Until then, he's a comfortable professional, not a rich one.
525,000 euros, and why that number is soft
Market estimates put his value at around 525,000 euros. For a 20 year old who played regularly in the second tier, that's a fair starting point, and it carries more upside than downside. The ingredients buyers pay for are all there: a Barcelona education, a left foot, senior minutes and a long contract. What's missing is evidence at the top level, and that's the only thing that will move the figure much.
Summer 2026 and the road to 2028
The Mirandes loan ended on June 30, 2026, sending him back to Valencia with a contract that runs until 2028. Squad numbers are part of the uncertainty: no fixed number was publicly assigned to him at Mirandes, and we haven't confirmed one for 2026/27. The realistic options are a first team role at Mestalla, another loan, or a sale. We'd rather say plainly that we haven't verified which way it went than guess.
Our view: another season of steady minutes, with the card count cut roughly in half, would do more for him than a bench seat in LaLiga. He's young enough that patience costs little. He hasn't been called up by Spain at senior level, and that won't come until the club football settles down.
