How Did Sevilla Land Arouna Sangante for Free? Net Worth, Height and FC 26 Rating (2026)

Sevilla didn't pay a cent for Arouna Sangante. Eighteen months before he signed, Le Havre were reportedly asking 4 million to 6 million euros for him, and clubs in England and Germany were paying attention. Then his contract ran down, and on June 16, 2026, the Senegalese centre-back put pen to paper on a five-year deal in Andalusia.

That is the kind of business struggling giants need to get right. A few weeks into his first La Liga season, the more interesting question is what Sevilla actually bought: a 24-year-old who had already worn a Ligue 1 captain's armband, won a promotion, and built a reputation as a defender who can head it and pass it.

From Mbao to the Paris suburbs

Sangante was born in Mbao, a suburb of Dakar, and moved to France young. His football started in the Paris region, first at Cosmos Saint-Denis and then at Red Star FC as a teenager. In 2017 he joined Le Havre, and that is where the real development happened.

He came through Le Havre B and made his first-team debut in the 2020/21 season. The following year he played 32 Ligue 2 matches. That's a big workload for a teenager in a league known for punishing young defenders.

The promotion season

The 2022/23 campaign is the one that put his name on scouting lists. Sangante made 35 appearances, chipped in 3 goals, and was a fixture as Le Havre won the Ligue 2 title and went up to Ligue 1. He was named in the UNFP Ligue 2 Team of the Year, the division's official recognition from fellow professionals.

An armband at 21

Plenty of promising defenders get promoted with their club. Fewer are handed the captaincy straight afterwards. Sangante took the armband at 21 and led Le Havre in Ligue 1, going on to make more than 70 top-flight appearances across three seasons. For a newly promoted side fighting to stay up, trusting a player that young with the role says a lot about how the dressing room saw him.

He has also represented Senegal at international level. His career total sits at roughly 170 appearances and 7 goals, a tidy return for a centre-back.

Built for the air, comfortable on the ball

At 1.89 metres, Sangante is an obvious aerial presence, and the numbers back it up: during the 2025/26 season at Le Havre he won nearly 60 percent of his aerial duels. That's a solid rate for a Ligue 1 defender facing physical strikers week after week.

What makes him more than a header of the ball is the other half of his game. He reads situations early, tackles cleanly and is willing to play passes out from the back. Clubs that build from defence want exactly that profile, which goes some way to explaining the interest he drew.

Why the price tag read zero

A free transfer can look like a warning sign. In Sangante's case it mostly reflects timing. Le Havre reportedly set an asking price of 4 million to 6 million euros in January 2025, and Brighton, Brentford, Leeds United, West Ham and Borussia Monchengladbach were all linked with him at various points. No deal happened, his contract expired, and Sevilla moved.

For Sevilla, tying a 24-year-old captain-level defender down until 2031 without a fee was widely viewed as smart business. Icon Polls expects him to push for a regular starting role as the club reshapes its back line.

Three sites, three valuations

Market value estimates for Sangante vary a lot depending on where you look:

  • Transfermarkt: 8 million euros
  • FotMob: 6.1 million euros
  • FootballTransfers: 10.8 million to 13.2 million euros

Icon Polls places him at 8 million to 10 million euros. His age, a long contract and the step up to La Liga all push the number upwards. The only real question is how quickly he settles.

What he earns, as far as anyone knows

Sevilla did not publish his wages, so any figure for his current salary is an estimate. At Le Havre he was reported to earn about 17,500 euros a week, roughly 910,000 euros a year, with some sources putting it closer to 1.14 million euros annually. A move to La Liga on a five-year deal almost certainly came with a raise, and Icon Polls estimates his Sevilla salary at somewhere between 1.5 million and 2.5 million euros a year.

Icon Polls estimates Sangante's net worth at between 1 million and 2 million dollars as of 2026, based on club wages and bonuses. There is no official figure, and anyone quoting a precise number is guessing.

The 74 debate

In EA Sports FC 26, Sangante carries a 74 overall rating, the same figure listed on his Sofifa page. His card leans on defending and physicality, with solid marking and standing tackle, which matches the player fans see on matchdays. Career mode players tend to like his aerial ability and positioning.

Is 74 fair? It is a reliable squad-player rating, and plenty of people who watched him captain Le Havre would argue it undersells him. A strong first season at Sevilla, with the extra exposure La Liga brings, is the most likely route to an upgrade in future updates.
