Sevilla's 2022/23 Europa League triumph had plenty of heroes, and Marcão was part of the squad that brought the trophy home. Three years on, salary trackers list him among the best paid players at the club. He is also one of the hardest to keep on the pitch. That contradiction is the whole story of Marcos do Nascimento Teixeira at 30: a tough, left-footed centre-back with genuine pedigree, a contract running to 2028, and a medical file that keeps interrupting him.

Londrina to Istanbul, the long way round
Marcão made his senior debut for Avaí at 17, in April 2014. What followed was the classic journeyman route through Brazilian football. Athletico Paranaense signed him, then loaned him to Guaratinguetá, Ferroviária and Atlético Goianiense before he got a look in Portugal with Rio Ave, again on loan.
The move that changed everything was a modest one. Chaves paid around €900,000 to bring him over permanently in July 2018. Six months later Galatasaray paid roughly €4 million, and that gamble on a defender most Turkish fans had never heard of paid off almost immediately.
Galatasaray made him
In his first half season in Istanbul he won the Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup, both in 2018/19, then added the Turkish Super Cup in 2019/20. Over three and a half seasons he made more than 100 league appearances and became a crowd favourite. He was physical, combative and comfortable stepping out with the ball on his left foot.
That was the version of Marcão Sevilla paid for in July 2022: about €12 million up front, with bonuses potentially taking the fee to €15 million.
The Sevilla ledger
Year one could hardly have gone better on paper. Sevilla won the Europa League in 2022/23, then the UEFA/CONMEBOL Club Challenge in 2023. After that, the injuries took over. A scaphoid fracture, a broken nose in September 2024, a foot problem in late 2025 and a knee injury in January 2026 have all cost him time. The knee kept him out until around April 2026.

A defender who walks the line
Across his domestic league career Marcão has passed 200 appearances, with 3 goals and a couple of assists. Nobody signs him for goals. The disciplinary record says more: over 60 league yellow cards and 9 sendings off. For a centre-back with that many games, nine reds is a lot. It's the price of the aggression that made him valuable in Turkey, and it is a real cost to any manager building a back line around him.
In Europe he has 29 appearances, with 2 goals and 2 assists, across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League qualifiers.
Wages, and what he might be worth
Neither Sevilla nor the player publishes salary figures, so everything here is reported or estimated. Salary tracking platforms put his base pay at around €4.2 million a year, roughly €80,000 to €84,000 a week, which would place him among the club's top earners alongside Djibril Sow. Those wages reportedly date from a contract extension signed in September 2025.
Add three and a half seasons of Galatasaray wages plus bonuses, and Icon Polls estimates Marcão's net worth at $6 million to $8 million in 2026. Treat that as an informed range, not an official number.
Why the price tag keeps shrinking
Transfermarkt values him at around €2.5 million, and some platforms go lower, at €1.3 million to €2 million. Compare that with the €12 million Sevilla paid and the drop is stark. Two forces drive it: he turned 30 in June, and buyers price in injury history ruthlessly. A deal running to 2028 means Sevilla are under no pressure to sell, but it also means any suitor would be inheriting a big wage for a player who has struggled to stay fit.
Pamela, and a day at the training ground
Marcão is married to Pamela Teixeira, and the couple keep their private life private. One moment did become public. As reported in late 2025, Pamela had been treated for breast cancer, and when she completed her final chemotherapy session in October 2025, the Sevilla squad formed a guard of honour for her at the training ground and the club gave her a commemorative shirt. The club motto, "Nunca te rindas" ("Never give up"), rarely felt so literal.
So, was he worth the fee?
Partly. A Europa League medal in your first season is a return most signings never deliver, and Sevilla clearly still rate him enough to have extended his deal. But a €12 million defender on top wages should be a fixture in the side, and Marcão hasn't been, for reasons that are mostly physical rather than about quality. Icon Polls sees him as a decent signing that fitness has kept from becoming a great one. His 2026/27 season, injury permitting, will settle the argument either way.
