Victor Osimhen Cost Galatasaray €75 Million. Here's Why the Price Still Looks Right (2026)

No Turkish club had ever paid €75 million for a player. Galatasaray did it on 31 July 2025, and they did it for a striker who had spent one season on loan in Istanbul and fallen in love with the place. More than a year on, Victor Osimhen is still the most valuable player in the Süper Lig, still wearing number 45 and still the reason scouts from bigger leagues keep booking flights to Istanbul.

The fee was huge. The wages are bigger than anything else in Turkish football. The question worth asking is whether the club got value, and the honest answer is that so far it looks like they did.

Bottled water in Lagos, ten goals in Chile

Osimhen grew up near the Olusosun area of Lagos with very little money. He lost his mother when he was very young and helped his family by selling bottled water and taking whatever small jobs he could find. That background isn't a footnote to his career. He talks about it constantly, and it explains the edge he plays with.

The way out came at the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile. Osimhen scored 10 goals as Nigeria won the tournament, and European clubs suddenly knew his name.

The long way to Naples

Wolfsburg got there first, and it didn't work. Injuries and limited chances left him stuck in Germany, and his confidence went with them. A loan to Charleroi in Belgium rescued things. He scored regularly, remembered what he was good at and earned a move to Lille in 2019.

One strong season in France was enough. Napoli signed him in 2020, and that is where a promising forward became a star.

Twenty-six goals and a 33-year wait

The 2022/23 season is the one that defines him. Osimhen scored 26 league goals, finished as Serie A's top scorer and led Napoli to their first title in 33 years. In a city that treats football like religion, that made him close to untouchable.

It didn't last. His final period at Napoli was messy, and in 2024 he left for Galatasaray on loan. Plenty of people saw it as a step down. It turned out to be the move that made him happy again.

Why Istanbul, and why he stayed

The 2024/25 loan went about as well as any loan can. He scored heavily, Galatasaray won the league and the supporters adopted him almost immediately. When the season ended he had options in England, Italy and Saudi Arabia. He chose to stay where he felt wanted.

Galatasaray paid Napoli a net fee of €75 million, the biggest incoming transfer in Turkish football history. Napoli kept a 10 percent share of the profit on any future sale, so they still have a quiet interest in how much he's worth.

Reading the pay slip

Most footballers' wages are guesswork. Osimhen's aren't, because Galatasaray disclosed the package when the permanent deal was announced:

  • €15 million net guaranteed salary per season
  • €1 million net loyalty bonus per season
  • €5 million per season in image-rights payments

That adds up to €21 million a year before any performance-related income. Gross-salary estimates put his fixed wage at roughly €18.75 million a year, or around €360,000 a week. The gap between those numbers is about how tax, bonuses and image rights are counted, not a disagreement over what he's paid.

Net worth is a different matter. No official figure exists and his private finances have never been published. Icon Polls estimates his net worth at $35 million to $40 million, based on his contracts, bonuses, transfer history, endorsements, image rights and international earnings. Treat that as an informed estimate, not a bank statement.

What €75 million buys in 2026

In May 2026 his market value was estimated at about €75 million, the same figure Galatasaray paid. That makes him the most valuable player in Turkey and one of the highest-valued centre-forwards anywhere. Holding value for a full year after a record fee is not nothing.

Market value isn't an asking price, though. His four-year deal runs to 30 June 2029, so Galatasaray hold the cards. Reports in 2026 linked him with major European clubs, Premier League sides among them, and suggested Galatasaray had turned down very large approaches. Osimhen himself pushed back publicly on talk that he was preparing to leave. As of our August 2026 reporting, he was still a Galatasaray player, and with three years left on his contract, anyone wanting him will have to pay well above the market figure.

What makes him hard to mark

Height plus pace is a nasty combination for centre-backs. Osimhen is always running in behind, always attacking crosses early and always chasing defenders when his team loses the ball. He's strong in the air, too, and finds headers against taller opponents by attacking the gap between centre-back and full-back.

Early in his career he was mostly raw speed. Now he finishes with either foot and links play better than he used to. Goals are still the point, though. And the emotion is part of the package: defenders rarely get a quiet afternoon against him.

If you think he belongs in the bigger conversation about the game's greats, you can vote in our all-time football players poll and make the case.

Faith, fatherhood and a guarded home life

Osimhen is a Christian and doesn't hide it. He has spoken about praying before he leaves his hotel room on matchdays, listening to gospel music to calm his nerves and leaving results in God's hands. He describes his success as God's grace, and has recalled praying as a child and asking why life was so hard for his family. It reads less like a public pose and more like something forged in those years.

His long-term partner is Stefanie Kim Ladewig, and the couple have a daughter, Hailey, born in October 2022. Plenty of websites call Stefanie his wife, but no marriage has ever been publicly confirmed. He is protective of his family, has said fatherhood changed him and keeps most of his home life away from cameras.
