Most footballers do not get to choose where they play. Alvaro Valles did, and the price was steep: a rejected renewal, a spell frozen out of the Las Palmas squad, and a no to Olympique de Marseille. He wanted Seville. More precisely, he wanted Real Betis, the club whose academy he had left years earlier. In the summer of 2025 he got there on a free transfer, and Betis handed him the number 1 shirt and a contract to 2030.
That kind of stubbornness is rare. It also tells you a lot about the goalkeeper Betis now relies on.

A Betis kid who had to leave first

La Rinconada sits just outside Seville, close enough that football there means picking a side in one of Spain's fiercest city rivalries. Valles started at the local Circulo Don Bosco setup before Real Betis brought him into their academy in 2014.
The academy did not lead straight to the first team. He played for Betis B and dropped into the fourth tier on loan at CD Gerena, the sort of loan that tests whether a young keeper really wants the career. In 2018 he left for Las Palmas, starting with their B side. On paper it looked like a sideways step. It turned out to be the making of him.
Six seasons in the Canary Islands
At Las Palmas, Valles grew from reserve option into the undisputed number one. He played in the Segunda Division and then in La Liga, and that combination matters: it is one thing to stop shots in the second tier, another to do it against top-flight attacks every week. Bigger clubs started paying attention.
Betis were the most persistent. In the summer of 2024 they reportedly offered around 4 million euros, and Las Palmas said no. Valles responded by refusing to renew. He had agreed a pre-contract with Betis, Las Palmas excluded him from the squad, and he played no matches in his final months there. Marseille showed interest along the way. He turned them down too.
You can read that as loyalty or as a hard-nosed career move. It was probably both. Either way, he walked out of Las Palmas in July 2025 and into Betis for nothing.
The first season back, by the numbers
Coming off months without competitive football, Valles still took the starting job in 2025/26. Across roughly 26 La Liga appearances and about 2,520 minutes, he kept 8 clean sheets, conceded 30 goals and posted a save percentage of around 71.68%. One yellow card in the whole campaign.
The Europa League was kinder: 5 appearances, 3 clean sheets and a save percentage of 80%. Small sample, but encouraging for a keeper whose European experience had been nil.
Our honest read: solid rather than spectacular in the league, which is about what you would expect from a first year at a new club after an enforced layoff. His career totals now sit above 155 matches and more than 50 clean sheets across all competitions, a respectable body of work for someone who spent much of his twenties outside the top flight.
What Betis pays him, and what he might be worth
Icon Polls estimates Valles earns around 2 million euros a year at Betis, which works out to roughly 40,000 euros a week. Clubs rarely publish wages, so treat that as a reasonable figure rather than a confirmed one. It is a fair wage for a La Liga starter, though well short of the club's biggest names such as Isco.
On that basis, Icon Polls estimates his net worth at somewhere between $3 million and $5 million, built from several seasons in Spain's top two divisions. Bonuses and any sponsorship income have not been made public, so they are not something we can put a number on.
Valuations are messier. One commonly quoted market value puts him around 5.8 million euros, while other sources suggest a transfer range of 1.5 million to 2.9 million euros. Those figures do not sit comfortably together, which is a good reminder that player valuations are opinions, not price tags. What is not in doubt: Betis paid no fee, and a contract to 2030 means any buyer would have to negotiate hard.
Why the Spain door stays shut
As of 2026, Valles has no senior call-up for Spain. That says less about him than about the queue. With goalkeepers such as David Raya and Unai Simon ahead of him, breaking into the national side would take a sustained run of elite form. At 29, keepers often enter their best years, so it is not impossible. It is just unlikely in the short term.

Family, kept off camera

Valles is married, but his wife's name and personal details are not public, and he does not post family content on social media. During the long transfer saga, reports said he was in Seville to be with his pregnant wife, which goes some way to explaining how badly he wanted the move home. Beyond that, he keeps his private life private, and we will leave it there.
The same goes for his parents. What is known is simply that they backed his early football at Circulo Don Bosco, the route that eventually took him into the Betis academy.
FC 26 and the mid-tier label
Valles appears in the EA Sports series, where his ratings have generally placed him as a dependable mid-tier La Liga goalkeeper. His height, reflexes and comfort playing as a sweeper keeper feed into that profile. Exact FC 26 numbers shift with in-season updates, so check the game itself for the current figure.
